Marvel's Silk to swing onto the big screen with Sony & Amy Pascal developing

Huzzah! Much to the delight of many Marvel fans, it's been announced that Sony and producer Amy Pascal are in early development on a feature-length adaptation of the Marvel comic Silk, an action-packed series starring the Korean-American web-slinger Cindy Moon a.k.a. Silk.

Created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos, Silk made her comic book debut in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man #1 (2014). Though her appearance was just a cameo at the time, Silk returned in full-force when The Amazing Spider-Man #4 hit stands. As the story goes, Cindy quickly became a fan favorite character, particularly with readers looking for a bit of diversity from Marvel's extensive line of hard-hitting heroes. A solo series featuring Silk was launched in 2015 from writer Robbie Thompson with art by Stacey Lee. Since that time, Cindy has become a major player in the Marvel Universe and can be found swinging her way through multiple events and side-stories alongside heroes from Marvel's Spiderverse.

In the pages of Marvel comics, Cindy is a student in Peter Parker’s class who also is bitten by a radioactive spider around the same time as Peter. She gains abilities similar to his, though she is able to spin webs out of her fingertips, possesses an eidetic memory, and has advanced Spider-Sense (known as Silk Sense) far stronger than Peter’s. Although she has less superhuman strength than Peter, Cindy is much faster and carries a dark past atop her super-powered shoulders.

While the announced project will be Cindy's first solo venture on the silver screen, it wouldn't be the first time that fans are seeing her as a part of the MCU. Eagle-eyed viewers may recall catching Cindy (as played by Tiffany Espensen) as a member of Peter's decathlon team in the Pascal-produced SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING. Her character was featured again in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, albeit briefly, during the scene when Peter exits a moving bus, after his Spider-sense starts a tinglin'.

Sony is remaining mum on the details of SILK for the moment, though I would suspect that we'll be hearing more real soon.
