Oliver Stone in talks to helm Travis McGee

Having already completed his return to greed with WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS, director Oliver Stone is now in talks to take the reins of detective film TRAVIS MCGEE.

Based on the stories by John D. MacDonald, the titular character Travis McGee (to be played by Leonardo DiCaprio) is the hero of the writer’s twenty-one detective novels. The film would be based on the first of those novels – 1964’s The Deep Blue Good-by – which “tracks the Florida-based ‘salvage consultant’ as he reluctantly leaves his houseboat to go in search of a treasure hidden by a soldier after World War II.” The adaptation comes from Dana Stevens (FOR LOVE OF THE GAME, CITY OF ANGELS) and Kario Salem (THE SCORE).

Stone has two other projects currently in development: SAVAGES and JAWBREAKER. Which of all these will be his next go-to film remains to be seen.

WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS is set to open on September 24th.
