Ellen Page is set to play Jane Eyre in an adaptation of the classic book by Charlotte Bronte. In case like me, you failed English literature at school, it’s the story of a mousy governess who softens the heart of her surly employer Mr. Rochester, only to discover that he’s hiding a terrible secret.
On the upside, Jane Eyre is one of the most acclaimed novels of all time, and Ellen Page is pretty damn good too. But on the downside, unless in this version, halfway through the second act the Green Lantern rides through the English countryside on a tricycle with Martin Luther King and Hitler, I’m pretty sure we’ve seen this movie before. As Variety itself says, the novel has already been made into a film or TV series 20 times. 20 times! Do we seriously need another one of these things?
