Purity won't stop Daniel Craig from coming back as James Bond

08.12.2016

daniel craig, james bond, 007,

It's been plenty quiet on the 007 front as of late as it pertains to who will play James Bond for the 25th film in the franchise. Will Daniel Craig reprise the iconic superspy for another film, or is he truly done, opening up a vacancy for someone else to fill? All of that is yet to be determined as Eon and MGM continue shopping around for the best distribution deal they can possibly find around the studio system now that their arrangement with Sony Pictures has expired - 50% of the production costs and 100% of the marketing costs in exchange for 20% of the profits were their previous terms.

However, with Craig signing onto the Showtime series PURITY in recent months, there was a lot of speculation (myself included) that such a project might clog up the calendar for Craig in the future, making his out from the Bond series - if that's what he wishes - that much easier to pull off. But if Craig doesn't want to be 007 anymore, it won't be because PURITY is stopping him.

Showtime CEO David Nevins said as much during the TCA, basically saying any future Bond involvement, or lack thereof, will be Craig's call. “It depends when they do the next James Bond movie, but I don’t think it precludes him is the answer. This will largely be completed during the course of 2017, depending how long they’re willing to wait and shoot the next Bond. There might be some breaks somewhere, but [production] will be fairly continuous.”

Therefore, you might want to tuck away those Tom Hiddleston casting rumors for the time being and we'll see what Craig thinks now that he's gotten some distance from the last film. But, as someone who wasn't a fan of SPECTRE, I'd hope he'd come back for one more go-'round in the name of going out on a high note and not that last film we got.

Pretty impressive that Daniel Craig is so liked as Bond that the Broccolis aren't in any rush to get rid of him. Remember when Pierce Brosnan was pretty much fired because they thought James Bond had jumped the shark?

Casino Royale, was breath of fresh air. One of the best Bonds.

Skyfalll and whatever that other mess of Mendes film is a called are among the worst movies ever made Bond or not.
They need new blood. New Bond, new writers most of all. It seems there is such a small list of writers in the biz working on big budget films which makes them all feel the same. New writers please please please. Someone who has never written a so-called box office hit.

Casino Royale was a completely overrated boring, badly edited mess...Skyfall is hands down the best bond film since Goldeneye, and essentially one of the best bond movies period...It perfectly captures the essence of what bond is SUPPOSED to be, not trying to reinvent the wheel like Royale. It stands high with the original Connery pictures.

No, no, no bmanTHEbandit, I think you're confused, Casino Royale wasactually very good, much more character centric, with supporting characters who actually have personalities and motives, and an empowered Bond girl whose just as proactive and important as Bond himself. Skyfall was fun, and definitely more "stereotypically Bond" but I think the villain and some of the plot beats felt overly cartoony and a little vanilla. I think ther's definitely a way to combine the "fun" factor of Skyfall

Casino royale was a strange one. Never saw a mainstream hero get tortured in the balls before. I thought it sucked reall hard. Skyfall's a better Bond movie for me. Spectre was also damned good and I never understood the hate it was getting.

That entire torture scene was lifted straight out of Ian Fleming. Casino Royale is the best thing Craig has done as Bond. Skyfall has some terrific moments, all amounting to "Jesus, has Judi Dench been in every Bond movie since GoldenEye? Time to give her a rest."

I liked Spectre, and I can easily understand why Daniel wouldn't want to come back. However, I would love it if he came back for one more, absolutely kickass Bond film. End his tenure with an epic mic drop.

I wasn't ready to say goodbye to Daniel just yet. All these people constantly blabbing about who the next Bond will be, I'm over here waiting for Craig to announce he's doing one more.

I want him to come back for one more, but only if he really cares. It still feels too early to replace him.
