Rumor: Could Marvel be preparing to announce an Eternals movie?

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Just when you thought you were safe from the ceaseless onslaught of Marvel news that crowds your social media feeds, a rumor related to a possible project from the studio is once again making the rounds. Not long ago, word started getting around that Marvel was looking to develop a film based on the comic series ETERNALS featuring characters created by Jack Kirby for the studio's publishing arm. And now, Bleeding Cool is saying that they've been informed by a "very reliable source" that Marvel will be making an announcement about the project quite soon. According to BC's source, the studio has already held meetings with a series of writers who Marvel hopes will help make the idea a reality.

Now, please remember that, as of this moment, all of what you've read about the supposed ETERNALS project is just hearsay. After all, we see a lot of these rumors throughout the year, though Bleeding Cool insists that their source is a reliable one. Take that for what you will, I know that I personally won't believe a thing until we hear Marvel make an official announcement.

As the story goes, Jack Kirby created THE ETERNALS back in 1976, after his NEW GODS series with DC Comics had gone unfinished due to a series of cancellations on the publisher's behalf. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the group, THE ETERNALS are billed as an evolutionary offshoot of humanity created as an experiment by the Celestials. While living on Earth, the unique race possess great powers and longer lifespans than the mainstream human race.

In the past, Marvel has found great success in introducing fans of the MCU to teams outside of the Avenger's elite circle, as evidenced by the fact that GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is now a household name. Should the ETERNALS rumor prove true, we may very well be introduced to a series of new characters in due time. Or, just in time for Marvel to announced their plans beyond Phase 4, eh?

What are your thoughts on the ETERNALS rumor? Are you down for going on adventures with yet another team from the pages of Marvel Comics? Is the MCU getting a bit too crowded, these days? Have you read ETERNALS and are finding yourself overjoyed by the prospect that they might end up on the big screen? Let us know in the comments section below.
