So will The Expendables 2 be Rated R after all?

Mar. 19, 2012by: Alejandro Stepenberg

Expendables exploding banner

I would take today's rumor with an extra large grain of salt.  That being said, it comes from Craig Zablo's StalloneZone, a place which claims to be "The #1 Sylvester Stallone Fan Site In the World."

Which brings us to the following update from Mr. Zablo: "Just received word from Sly today... and I quote 'After taking in all the odd rumors and hearsay, EXPENDABLES 2 is an R.'”

So there it is.  Ratings aren't the be-all-end-all of a project's quality, not by any means.  But if a certain rating is what the people want, for whatever the reason, then it seems rather smart of Stallone give it to them.  I know I'll be there either way, and shit will explode and justice be served, and that it'll be pretty f***ing great.

Guess Chuck Norris isn't all powerful after all?

In other news: oh hello Charisma Carpenter...

Charisma Carpenter 1

Charisma Carpenter 2

Extra Tidbit: I'm actually kind of sad that Mickey Rourke won't be getting another monologue.

What the fuck are you talking about? People went apeshit because Sly himself confirmed to Aint-it-Cool that the film was PG-13. This new development, if true, is a change of heart in REACTION to fans going apeshit.

The statement itself is hearsay. Albeit promising hearsay. If Sly can just confirm via his twitter then we can pop the champagne corks.

But my appetite for screen violence will not be sated by CGI blood. After the R-rated original's mega success, EX2 was a chance to reward fans by SHOOTING bloody and SHOOTING raw with a dozen squibs per henchman. Like the good 'ole days this film is meant to hark back to.

The last one was actually shot ambiguously so it could be PG-13, a lot of the R Rated stuff was added later via reshoots and CGI

But the real question is???

Hope it's true

I have a feeling this isn't true but I hope it is. The main reason I hope it is though is because If it's PG-13 my theater experience will be shit due to all the punk kids being annoying and whatnot. Always happens with PG-13 movies...always

If it's true, I say Fuck Yeah. Now here's hoping for a real, hard R.

I think more and more people started calling him out on his bullshit and he disappeared. The world is a better place without him.

Considering how hard Terry Crews was defending the rating and Chuck Norris on facebook, I call BS on it being just a false rumor

I was pumped regardless.

But I am still happy. Part of me wondered the whole time if it ever really was going to be PG13 and they were just trying to scare us.

So in other words, all the gnashing of teeth over what Chuck Norris might have said was much ado about nothing.

If this holds to be true

This is terrific news, and i hope its holds true. Im sure the PG13 version might have been decant, but I'm positive that with an R rating it WILL be a lot better!!

always had a hard time imagining dudes killing people, and blowing shit up.. and not seeing blood, or hearing them swear while in a massive battle.

Chuck Norris's part should be reduced to one scene where Sly and Statham walk approach him in a bar, and Chuck says "Go fuck yourself."

Or better the reverse, Sly and Stath see Norris in the bar and tell him to "Fuck off" and then the dude leaves and we don't see him again. Sold!

Well, that part would have to be modified cause of PG Chuck can't swear.. So i defiantly dig Violent's rewrite, makes much more sense telling him to fuck himself!

Really?

I'm guessing Chuck has been reduced to cameo appearance.

Anyway, I'll wait for the Red-Band trailer to confirm this.

Sometimes ratings aren't the end all be all, but soemtimes they do make a movie better and more connecting to an audience.

That said, out of the 11 weeks of 2012, 7 of them have had an R-rated movie atop the box office.

As I have said before, i think the whole "R movies don't make as money as PG-13 movies" is a line chalked up by studios who handle R-rated movies poorly and use the excuse as a copout for their awful marketing. Terminator 2, Matrix, and the first Expendables had no

Terminator 2, Matrix, and the first Expendables had no problems making money, but that's because they had good marketing.
