Sopranos creator David Chase to write rock drama

If you’re willing to forgive David Chase for the way THE SOPRANOS ended, then you may be interested in his next project.

Chase will helm his first film based on his own untitled screenplay. Don’t expect anything about the Mafia though. This story is a music-driven coming of age drama about a group of guys who form a rock band in the 1960s. The film will start shooting sometime around the end of summer or early fall.

A deal was made with Chase to make a film for Paramount back in 2008. Then the studio wouldn’t say what sort of idea Chase had in mind, but it turned out to be a big surprise. The film will be released under Paramount Vantage, so it will be more of an indie feature rather than a big box office movie.

In case you were wondering if Tony Soprano would be back one day in his own feature film, the answer for now is no. Chase’s first and only concern is his untitled creation with Paramount Vantage. While the idea to make a film isn’t dead, it’s not on the to do list. Sorry to those of you looking to find closure, perhaps a rock drama will tide you over until the day comes.
