Author Bret Easton Ellis excels at a couple of things: excess, and the 80s (LESS THAN ZERO, AMERICAN PSYCHO). And both are front and center for THE INFORMERS, which Ellis adapted from his own novel.

The movie comes from director Gregor Jordan (NED KELLY, BUFFALO SOLDIERS) and features Billy Bob Thornton, Mickey Rourke, Kim Basinger, Winona Ryder, Jon Foster (Ben's kid bro), Amber Heard and the late Brad Renfro.

Set in 1980s Los Angeles, THE INFORMERS is "a multi-strand narrative that deftly balances a vast array of characters who represent both the top of the heap (a Hollywood dream merchant, a dissolute rock star, an aging newscaster) and the bottom (a voyeuristic doorman, an amoral ex-con). Connecting all his intertwining strands are the quintessential Ellis protagonists—a group of beautiful, blonde young men and women who sleep all day and party all night, doing drugs—and one another—with abandon, never realizing that they are dancing on the edge of a volcano." Check out the trailer (WARNING: naked chicks!) and poster below.

Extra Tidbit: Scenes featuring Brandon "Superman" Routh were apparently cut from the movie completely during the editing process.

Looks like a LESS THAN ZERO remake. And is anyone really interested in movies about bored, pretty rich people who can't sort out their lives anymore?

Renfro croaked in 08, a few weeks before Ledger.

Incidentally, this is directed by Gregor Jordan, the guy who directed Two Hands, which was Ledger's first major starring role. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't seen it. Good Aussie crime flick.

Anyway, this looks like a pretty solid adaptation. I'll check it out when it hits cinemas... Now I'm just...

Looks pretty good--the book is one of my favorites and it looks like they've weaved together it's various interlocking short stories into a cohesive flick. Not too hyped about the cast though.

Also, how long have they been sitting on this? Didn't Brad Renfro die sometime in 07 or early 08?
