The latest trailer for Ron Howard’s Rush trades plot details for car crashes and sex

When the previous trailers for RUSH came online, I wondered how well the movie would do here in the U.S. Most Americans don’t know anything about Formula racing and tend to gravitate towards NASCAR. Even movies like TALLADEGA NIGHTS and CARS 2 discussed the disparity between the two forms of racing. With that in mind comes this new trailer for RUSH.

Coming in more like a teaser than a trailer, this clip for RUSH takes out the entire detail of the true story of the rivalry between Niki Lauda and James Hunt. There is no mention of the 1976 crash that left Lauda with life threatening burns, just some fleeting glimpses of Lauda in flames and his car crashing. Instead, the focus is squarely on Hemsworth and his sex appeal.

I won’t complain at getting some nice shots of Olivia Wilde looking hot as well as a brief sex scene, but it seems like a very misleading marketing approach for a movie that will be about Formula 1 racing. I have become skeptical when it comes to Ron Howard‘s films over the years, but RUSH does look visually like a great movie.

RUSH hits theaters on September 20, 2013.
