Say what you will about Tom Cruise and his affinity for alien gods, but as an actor, the man has played more iconic characters than nearly anyone else alive, and every time a new project is announced of his, I’m still looking forward to it. Yes, even after VALKYRIE.
According to the LA Times, Cruise and Reese Witherspoon are circling a project called PAPER WINGS where a champion rodeo cowboy falls for an up-and-coming country singer. Sure, Witherspoon’s Oscar tells us she can play that part fairly well, but what of Cruise as a cowboy?
Lord knows the man can’t (or won’t) do accents (hence his perfect English speaking Nazi in VALKYRIE) so I’m not sure if southern drawl will suit him. Maybe he’ll be one of those Northern California rodeo champions.
The project has been around for some time, but with country-themed CRAZY HEART kicking ass this year, it would seem Sony thinks it’s the right time to get it made.
