Tom Hanks may see action with Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow

Oscar-winning actor plus the Oscar-winning director of an Oscar-winning movie? Not necessarily a winning equation, but definitely intriguing in this case.

Tom Hanks is currently eyeballing next project from THE HURT LOCKER director Kathryn Bigelow, now finally getting appropriate opportunities long after giving us NEAR DARK and POINT BREAK. While a title seems undecided as yet, it’s currently going by SLEEPING DOGS and was previously known as TRIPLE FRONTIER.

The script comes from THE HURT LOCKER scribe Mark Boal, and “is set in the border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil, which is a haven for organized crime, and centers on five men of various ages working in the zone.”

Other names that have been associated with the project include Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Christian Bale and Jeremy Renner. Quite a lineup. But Hanks already has a loaded plate — he’s directing his second feature LARRY CROWNE, and has been looking at an adaptation of the Jonathan Safran Foer novel “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.”
