Trailer for Drew Struzan documentary features Spielberg, Lucas and more

08.16.2010

Even if you don't know who Drew Struzan is (and if you don't, shame on you), you certainly know his work. The man has created some of the most iconic movie poster art this side of Saul Bass. STAR WARS, INDIANA JONES, E.T., BACK TO THE FUTURE and HARRY POTTER among many, many others are just some of the creations he's worked up.

While Struzan retired in 2008, his legacy continues with the upcoming documentary DREW: THE MAN BEHIND THE POSTER. Just the trailer alone features appearances by George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford, Guillermo del Toro, Michael J. Fox and more. There's no release date for the film yet but check out the trailer below and it'll get you excited for whenever this finds a distributor.

Extra Tidbit: Struzan's last poster was for KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL, which just doesn't seem fair.

Never again . . .

. . . will we see movie posters go back to this elemental but breathtaking type of art; simple paint and pencil on hardboard, executed with a mastery that defies description. Drew certainly didn't begin it, but his retirement ENDED it.

Check his website for a HUGE gallery of his work, including films that you'd never guess he did the art for: [link] .

By the way, Antarius: Yes, you're a Neanderthal.

I'd see it, not just because my name it Drew

I honestly didn't realize how many of my old movie posters I had were done by one guy. I knew his name was Drew, but I probably had about 10 or so of his one time or another. Loved the "Indiana Jones" ones the most.

Love his work! Also, might I point out the only thing good about The Mist was the homage to Drew in the beginning and the very short featurette about him among the special features on the DVD. Really looking forward to this documentary!

drew is a prime example of the talent that was. Artist today have it too easy, imo. I am a designer and almost always prefer to do this the old school way. Drews contributions to cinema will never be forgotten.

This looks wonderful. I like these little docs that don't look at big, grandiose problems that plague the world; but rather, at something relatively insignificant on the global scale but still quite wonderful. The guy was (well, he's not dead, so IS) an incredible artist, and it's great to see him and his work immortalized like this!

Looks like a documentary I'd see in theaters. More than anything, I look forward to the poster for this film.

The Mist

I'm likely wrong, but could have sworn The Mist was his last poster

Steve Guttenberg!

Sorry just got carried away, I think he's due for a comeback a la Travolta/Pulp Fiction style
