Trent Reznor reunites with David Fincher to score Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

01.10.2011

David Fincher seems like an odd pairing with former NIN frontman Trent Reznor, but the two go all the way back to the brilliant opening credits of SE7EN, and their recent collaboration on THE SOCIAL NETWORK might get an Oscar all to itself.

Seemingly pleased with how that last endeavor turned out, the duo are reteaming for THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. Reznor explains:

"I'd read the book but I'd not got the script yet," Reznor explains, "but I heard a few buzz words [from Fincher] like ‘ice’ and 'frozen’. We spent three weeks generating, blind, stuff that I thought would be helpful for them to have. His editors are always looking for temp music to put in mock-ups of scenes he just shot, so I thought it would be a nice present."

"Blade Runner's music feels like it's fromBlade Runner," he says, "It has its own identity. We’re striving to do the same with The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and the results we have so far really feel like that.”

In case you weren't paying close enough during THE SOCIAL NETWORK, here's a sampling of what it sounds like when Trent Reznor scores a film. I'll be curious to see how his DRAGON TATTOO soundtrack differs.

i think this pairing will turn out great again. Fincher has already said that hes not remaking the films, hes adapting the novels. The last time he did that he gave us Fight Club, and everyone seems pleased with that. Hopefully we'll get something similar to what Fincher did with the Dust Brothers on Fight Club out of Reznor for Dragon Tattoo

Fincher's pretty great, but I still don't like the idea of this movie. Reznor is also pretty great though...

Awesome!

While I have some misgivings about the film itself, count me down on a pre-order for this soundtrack regardless.

I'm totally down for this. Reznor might not have the magic lyrically (well, ever) but the man knows how to create a mood and bring atmosphere to audio. We shall see.

i am finding it really hard to hate this production. on one hand, i have a moral opposition to these "year after" remakes (a la Let Me In). on the other hand, David Fincher... shooting on location in Sweden... and now Trent Reznor. i feel like a sell out.

Reznor + Fincher = A match made in heaven

I don't know why anyone is "redding" this news. Terminal_83 is normally a big suck anyway, so that's understandable.

Were you ok w/ the book being printed in English? Or do you only draw the line at film? LOL . . .

Reznor and Fincher are a perfect match. I would like to visit an alternate reality where Reznor got to do the Fight Club soundtrack.

NIN IS Reznor. There not going to be a "touring" band anymore, but he is still going to put out material under the NIN moniker. Though I would imagine not for a while because of all the soundtrack work and his other band, HOW TO DESTROY ANGELS.

nin neer really "broke up" so to speak, as trent reznor is the only member, and just uses different musicians for each album - even each tour. e.g. dave grohl was the drummer for the recording of "with teeth"

im finishin up the 'dragon tattoo' book right now (i decided to read the books before watching the movies).

Fincher and Reznor seem perfect for this movie, and I can see Craig pulling off a good Blomvist.

If the studio steps in to make this PG 13, it's not going to work - at all! it may have been fine for the social network, but to have most of the events of the story to happen off screen will really hurt this flick.

The subject matter in itself cant really get anything than an R-rating. So much from the story and the message would be lost otherwise.

i said the same thing about Die Hard 4, Wall Street 2, and with the Social Network. Im with you that even the littlest things in the story warrant an R rating, and if it goes pg 13, then mostly everything in the stroy will have to be off camera and the movie would mostly be talk of whats happening - which would make for one crummy movie.
