True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgard sharpens his blade for a Viking epic

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

As Alexander Skarsgård continues to be the most entertaining thing about HBO’s “True Blood” (which you could argue, though I wouldn’t understand how), we still await his first big opportunity to really showcase that considerable charisma on the big screen.

He may be getting his chance with THE VANGUARD, in which the Swedish actor will swap his Northman fangs for the edged weaponry of Vikings.

The story will follow “the adventures of two Viking warrior brothers who embark on a journey to return to Sweden after being banished to North America.”

The Warner Bros. project is described as a potential award-chasing tentpole movie in the vein of GLADIATOR or BRAVEHEART. The script comes from Chris Boal (brother of THE HURT LOCKER writer Mark Boal), and Charles Roven (THE DARK KNIGHT) is among the producers, along with Skarsgård himself.

Skarsgård, an early fan favorite for THOR (dad Stellan wound up with a role instead), will soon be seen in the remake of STRAW DOGS and next summer’s Navy-versus-aliens board game adaptation BATTLESHIP.
