Two teasers for Man of Steel have arrived featuring narration from Kevin Costner and Russell Crowe

When I caught THE DARK KNIGHT RISES yesterday, I was watching for the MAN OF STEEL teaser that we all knew would be there. I was waiting with bated breath to see if I'd dislike it as much as I was sure I would.  Then it arrived, and what unfolded before me was... well, it was unlike anything I expected.  In fact, I loved it.  Everything about it looked as beautiful as could be hoped for, the music and colors and camera work complementing each other perfectly.

It still looks more like SUPERMAN BEGINS than anything else, but I'm sure there's much more to the movie than that.  I hope so.  Will my hope be rewarded with as much awesomeness (to borrow an adjective probably trademarked by Zack Snyder) as my doubt was? That remains to be seen.  Plenty of time until the first full trailer and the movie's release on June 14th, 2013.

As narrated by Kevin Costner (Jonathan Kent):

The same trailer, as narrated by Russell Crowe (Jor-El):

Well Schmoes? After waiting all this time, and now that a look at it is finally here, what's your opinion on this super-child of David S. Goyer, Zack Snyder, and Christopher Nolan?

CLICK IMAGE TO OPEN GALLERY & SEE MORE PICS...

Extra Tidbit: Kevin Costner's version is the one that I saw in theaters, and it's fine and all, but I vastly prefer the Russell Crowe narration. "But, in time, they will join you in the sun. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders." That's some great writing right there. Well played, David S. Goyer.

These teasers were bad. They do not give me any reason to want to see this movie. These could have been any teaser for any Superman movie. It might as well be Marion Brando in the voice over.

One of the best teasers in a while (so much better than the Dark Knight Rises ones for example). Still, damn you Zack. Why don't you care that everything looks so awful digital? :(

to be honest, I was never a fan of Superman so I did not have any interest in this movie until I heard Nolan had some part of it. Then turns out Snyder is the director and I got all iffy again. But wow, just wow! this fucking trailer is gorgeous, I have seen it a dozen times already, both narrations work, but the monologue Crowe says is great! It looks like a new side of Snyder, and with Nolan's involvement, i'll be seeing this.

The Costner version felt a little depressing but nicely done while the Crowe version inspires a sense of hope. Time to wait for the full-version now.

Both narrations work. It's a great teaser doing what a teaser should, letting people know the movie exists and is coming. The flight scene is excellant.
Since big rumor is that this is the movie that will start integrating the DC universe onscreen the line "They will join you in the sun" could have extra meaning.

I really liked this teaser

The ending is absolutely incredible. But does anyone else feel like the LOTR music is a bit much? It projects just a little too much sadness and not quite enough impeding greatness.

I couldn't agree more. Why are they using Howard Shore's LotR music instead of Hans Zimmer's music?

I really don't mind it, I'm glad that it appears Snyder has dialed back his usual style and has afforded quieter and more dramatic scenes more gravity than he used to. I'm sure we can count on him to deliver the action spectacle when the time comes, I just hope he doesn't get too self-indulgent. I really liked Russell Crowe as Jor-El - it lent the character a bit more relatablity and world-weariness. I'm not a huge fan of Jor-El being portrayed as something of a deity, I liked the Animated

I'm not a huge fan of Jor-El being portrayed as something of a deity, I liked the Animated Series take on it better: a beleaguered scientist whose warnings go unheeded, for which his planet pays the price. Crowe sounds like he might bring some of that to the role. Kevin Costner as Pa Kent could turn out like Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben, that its, great. Let's see more stuff from this!

I LOVE this teaser. The whole thing with him working on the fishing boat in Alaska or wherever was great. So much emotion is shed from him just in that minute teaser. If the film itself keeps that feeling I will be extremely happy. So far so good is all I can say. Also I think the Kevin Costner voiceover is freaking brilliant. I hope he gets good pivotal screen time. Superman BEGINS!!

Yes, so far it looks cool, but not much was shown for me to fully judge how you think it will be. Here's to hoping.

Well another hope I have is that there won't be any slow-mo shots. Snyder needs to direct a film like an adult. Not some high school or college student.

Enjoyed this teaser surprisingly a lot. The look and feel of the film is great. I preferred the Costner voice-over, idk he really sounded like a dad just talking to his kid. But some of those clips looked ripped from the Deadliest Catch archives lol.

caring much for the costume, I certainly enjoyed the trailer (what's with the dead butterfly though). Still keeping my judgement for later.

I much preferred the one WB showed at SDCC. It was beautifully edited and the music they used was from Hans Zimmer's "Thin Red Line" soundtrack. I was somewhat disappointed, but in time they might show that one in theaters.

For a moment I thought that I was watching a jeans commercial. But that aside, I like the way Henry Cavill portrays a Clark Kent that look more like an everyman. The vapor trail that Superman made when he was flying at supersonic speed is a nice touch, reminds me of Dragon Ball Z though.

Its interesting how they already started to lebel Nolan's Bat trilogy as "The Dark Knight Trilogy", yeah I get that TDK is the widest acclaimed & knowing of the 3, but doesn't the name of a trilogy ALWAYS link somehow with the first installment (aside for LOTR or Indy)?? Like Star Wars, or today's Twilight Saga, Hunger Games Trilogy? Shouldn't the trlogy be just called Nolan's THE BATMAN TRILOGY? .......And I LOLed when the credit says Zack Snyder, director of Watchmen & 300.....So they're just

All kidding aside, the teaser is not much but looks good and gives you a feel of how different and updated/realistic the atmosphere & tone is from the previous ones. And I too, prefer the Crowe voiceover.

dont forget the Chronicles of Riddick Trilogy began with Pitch Black. Or the Millenium Trilogy that started with Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. And Rambo started with First Blood. And the Hannibal Trilogy starts with Silence of the Lambs.

Yes, but in Riddick and Hannibal's cases, those were actually the name of the main characters, thats why they called Hannibal trilogy or Riddick trilogy. Same can be said about Rambo trilogy, because its his NAME. Girl With the Dragon Tattoo already had Millenium as its preexisting trilogy name (like LOTR). So either that logic, because the character's name is BATMAN, NOT Dark Knight (thats more like a title) or because of the first movie's name, the trilogy should've called THE BATMAN TRILOGY.

Midnight Screening

At the midnight screening that I attended, this trailer was met with boo's from the crowd. I guess they felt burned from the last film. I'm not the biggest Synder fan, but this looks nothing like Synder's other films, which is good for me because I didn't like any of them. Hopefully Nolan is able to reign him in and keep the use of slow motion to a minimum. Hope it works.

"But, in time, they will join you in the sun. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders."... nice, but it doesn't make my heart soar the way it did when Marlon Brando spoke "They can be a great people, Kal-El, they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you... my only son.".

Really? Fucking LotR music?

Hated that shit when I first heard it.
I prefer Costner's narration, Crowe is a little "off" somehow.
Since I hated everything else comic-based by Snyder, can't say this has persuaded me at all (yet).

Thank you, this is really is kind of mind-blowing. I caught the Russell Crowe-version in the theater. The Kevin Costner-version is very good too but this is better. This is the last thing you'd expect from a Zack Snyder film, but maybe he was aware of that and tried to avoid it, which is great. It's strange because it's actually emotional, artsy, and, seriously, it's looks like Superman if it were made by Terrence Malick, seriously, this is like "The Tree of Life" of superhero trailers.

I think it's going to be the next most anticipated movie to come out since the Batman trilogy is now over. All the people who are hating on it now because of a teaser annoy me...why can't anyone just wait until 3-6 months before it comes out and see more info on it before starting the hate train?

Looks good. I went to the IMAX showing and only got the Hobbit Trailer.
I still think Singer should have been given a chance for a Superman Returns sequel. If Fantastic 4, Ghost Rider, and Amazing Spider-man can get a sequel, Superman Returns certainly deserved one. But I'm open to this new version.

Looks Great.

I enjoyed both narrations, but like Alejandro I prefer the Russell Crowe one alittle more. Now that Batman is done (Going out in incredible fashion I may add IMO) this will be the superhero movie I'm most excited to see and is the early front runner for my most anticipated.

I was just wondering though and this is just for my curiosity. Will he be using the line "Truth, justice and the American way"? Not sure if anyone knows, but I'm just curious.

The movie has to make money overseas as well so there'll definitely be an alteration i.e in the sub-titles, the script itself, voice- re-dubb or maybe they'll play it safe and leave it out altogether so as not to 'alienate' anyone.

Maybe I'm a dick for saying this, but I'm still trying to figure out how he created contrails (those twin cloud trails) behind him when he doesn't use an engine to fly. The sound barrier breakings were cool, but then the contrails came in and lost me.

Contrails, contrails, everybody look at the contrails! Aren't I smart ? I even had to put the definition in parenthesis. Shut up! It's a comic book movie. People don't really fly through the sky. Quit being so analytic. Suspend your disbelief and get lost in the movie. 99 percent of movies are fake, whether it be sound or images. Geez. But don't worry everyone thinks your smart cuz of contrails!!

The main products of hydrocarbon fuel combustion are CARBON DIOXIDE and WATER VAPOR. At high altitudes this water vapour emerges into a cold environment, and the local increase in water vapour can raise the relative humidity of the air past saturation point. The vapour then condenses into tiny water droplets which freeze if the temperature is low enough. These millions of tiny water droplets and/or ice crystals form the contrails.

Don't be lost anymore... Since this is a "movie" about a man

Don't be lost anymore... Since this is a "movie" about a man who flies you can assume that he breathes out super amounts of Co2 when he flies. You can also assume that he sweats super sweat. The effect being your favorite "contrails" I hope this ridiculous explanation to helps put your mind at ease about what Superman does or does not leave in his wake when he flies. Now go enjoy the Freakin movie!

You really wanna help me understand something? Help me understand Christian Bale's batman voice. No one can humanly talk like that!!

Contrails are a result of heated hydrocarbons, water and oxygen. Unless Supes flys on gas, he ain't producing no contrails. Basic jet engine knowledge.

But hey, if you're an uneducated, knuckle-dragger, that likes to insult people when they bring up a legitimate observation, I guess it looks cool.

In my opinion, it can be really hard to make someone in tights flying with a cape look cool. Sometimes, it just looks ridiculous and other times campy. Maybe the contrails aren't likely in a situation where a human flies without an engine, but it does give it a cooler look. Or, as Zack Snyder would probably say, "awesome".

Not all contrails are caused by engine exhaust: wingtip vortices [link]

In Superman's case, perhaps there are vortices behind the hands or feet. Instead of the "leading edge of the wings," maybe it's the "leading edge of the shoulders."

I have to admit, though — that LOTR score is still pretty damn effective, even outside its source material. And as far as the look of this movie, I'm liking it. I like the pace and the feel (even if it is just about a minute long).

Hopefully we just get a nice, fresh Superman movie and a franchise to look forward to.

I got goosebumps when watching that. This is my most anticipated film for next year; lets get that bad taste of Superman Returns out of our mouths. I really hope this film comes through.

Nice

It's awesome that Superman's two fathers deliver two different messages for the same trailer. I think it's a great storytelling device that shows his conflict of being from two worlds and the fact that he's out on a boat and has a "finding himself" beard just adds to that. This movie looks like it could have a lot of depth.

Music?

Whats up with THE LORD OF THE RINGS music? Isn't that Gandalfs theme when he dies?

Agree, after listening to both the Sunshine theme, as Josh said, and the Gandalf theme. It IS the Gandalf death theme.

Cool

The tone is exactly as expected.

And as previously described by people involved in the project.

More grounded. As with Nolans Batman franchise. But guaranteed not to be as dark.

It's a decent teaser, as much as I'd expect from a teaser. It looks more like Deadliest Catch than Superman for now, but I'm okay with it. The cinematography is okay, it's still not the Superman theme so it's okay as well, and it made me interested. It's not like TDK or TDKR had amazing teasers.

Great Teaser

I really enjoyed what's his face from Superman Returns (he was a great homage to the original)... That being said if they can give this version the Nolan grounded feel with the explosiveness of Snyder and actually let Kent doing some flying uppercuts, this'll be remarkable.

Looks beautiful. I think the tone could be similar to Nolans Batman trilogy. Also John Murphy's Sunshine music on the trailer always works, even though they tweaked it a little.

It's LOTR music, not Sunshine. It is from when Gandalf falls in Mordor.

It's pretty I guess, but the one one they showed at the comic-con one was cooler.
