Will Alec Baldwin join NBC's late-night lineup?

Apr. 10, 2013by: Jesse Giroux

Alec Baldwin

Just recently it was announced that Jimmy Fallon would be replacing Jay Leno as host of The Tonight Show in 2014 and Seth Meyers was in talks to become the new host of Late Night for the departing Fallon. So what late-night show on NBC could Alec Baldiwn possibly take over?

Oh, Last Call with Carson Daly still exists? My bad.

Alec Baldwin is in talks to helm his very own late night show according to The New York Times and their source, an unidentified executive at NBC that is involved with the network's program planning. Baldwin's show would likely take over the time slot that currently has Last Call and it isn't known if it will be an entirely new show or Alec Baldwin would just become the new host and tweak the format to his liking.

This isn't that surprising considering Alec Baldwin and NBC have a pretty solid relationship due to his work on 30 Rock and the multiple times he's hosted Saturday Night Live. I don't think anyone's going to argue that Alec Baldwin is a poor replacement for Carson Daly (except for maybe the seven Carson Daly super-fans out there) and if he does become the new host, NBC would have a pretty impressive lineup for their late-night shows.

Talks are still in the very early stages and there's always a chance things could fall through, so stay tuned for more news as it comes in. Until then you can get a feel for Alec Baldwin's interviewing style by checking out his podcast series with WNYC radio called "Here's The Thing." Enjoy.

Extra Tidbit: Do you like the idea of Alec Baldwin hosting a late-night show or do you have a better suggestion?

I listen to his podcast . He attracts educated, Charlie Rose style guests. I imagine that's what they will be shooting for.

If this happens it would probably only be for a few years max. I'd imagine Baldwin would get bored of the gig and get back into movies or tv.

He's got a nice old school vibe similar to Letterman and would attract a similar audience, while still being funny.

it doesn't take much talent to be a late night host, he could easily handle it but why would you want him to? I'd rather see him in movies or a show.

Considering his work on 6 seasons of 30 Rock, I'm pretty sure Alec Baldwin can handle the late night show - with some of his charisma and comedy. It'd be like The Jack Donaghy Show.

I can't see him being likeable enough to hold court and build the kind of rapport with audiences and guests that are important components of any late night talk show.

Even though I think he is above this and that I would like to see him star in more high caliber films, I would totally watch this because I am a huge fan of the guy.

Just can't stand Fallon or Seth Myers. Two people who I think have zero comedic timing.

He is such an asshole. I would hate seeing him on a show where he appears to be all nice and friendly. It would all be an act.

I think he'd be good at it, but a show that comes out that late is beneath him. Taking over the reigns from Carson Daly is a job more suited for an up and comer. Just my two cents.

Not a huge fan of talk shows, but this is cool. He'd be good at it.
