Will the final episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. share a connection with the release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier?

Nov. 4, 2013by: Niki Stephens

I've noticed that despite the not-so-glowing reviews of AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D that many of you are still sticking around. There's always two or three people in my Facebook feed that after each show who say, "I'll stick around a little longer to see if it picks up." My hopes for this show were never out of this world. I caught a few episodes and it didn't work for me unfortunately. As much as I love Joss Whedon and Clark Gregg, it's all just kind of bland.

If you are still watching and waiting for that moment when things get more exciting then that day might be coming very shortly. The rumor according to inside sources close to Comicbook.com is that the the last episodes of the first season will, "tease and set up the S.H.I.E.L.D. of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

The site elaborated on the tip-off:

We took that to mean that there will be a different S.H.I.E.L.D. going into the filma somewhat more fractured S.H.I.E.L.D., not completely at ease with itself, as weve heard rumors of Samuel L. Jacksons Nick Fury and Robert Redfords Alexander Pierce essentially vying for power within the organization. Our source declined to confirm or deny that speculation.

We've always known that the Marvel cinematic universe would affect the AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. series even if we weren't promised any major cameos. I for one welcome any Coulson-Cap giddiness. Perhaps the show will pick up after this. It will definitely make for more interesting moments within the organization.

What the hell people!? Why are people so cynical now a days. It's a great show. It's not Breaking Bad or The Walking Dead or Game of Thrones, but it's got pretty good production values and the now clich awkward dialogue from Whedon (which was pretty new in the Firefly days, but everyone is picking up on it) and it's pretty much as entertaining as Arrow. You can't call something the worst show on TV when you have things like Glee, Whale Wars, and the Vampire Diaries.

This show

Is easily the worst thing to come for marvel! It's a snoozefest!!! I'm even getting sick of coulsons one liners!!
There is nothing good about this show, the acting, the writing, the effects are all lazy and kinda cheap!!

But hey the most overrated man the Hollywood is involved, what should have I expected?

So Robert Redford is obviously gonna be some kind of bad guy in this movie right? He may not hire the violent bad guys, but Cap will at least arrest him at the end for being morally grey, and like knowing some terrorist type event would happen but did nothing to stop it, even though a lot of innocent ppl die - kinda like 9/11 - right? Something close to that. Despite the trailer making that obvious, I'm still really looking forward to Cap

My major problem with the show is that it hasn't really used anything that it has. They could easily use dozens to hundreds of lesser known Marvel properties that will never end up in the films. Instead, they opt for sub-par original content that fails to really excite. The show is entertaining enough, but it's not all that exciting. It barely captures the Marvel universe on TV, and that has nothing to do with the budget. Strip away all the shiny Marvel aspects and you have another, run of the

Strip away all the shiny Marvel aspects and you have another, run of the mill sci-fi TV show like Mutant X or some other obscure sci-fi show that no one really watched. The stories definitely need more writing and they need to incorporate more Marvel into the show. Otherwise, I can't see this lasting more than the next season. Unless, of course, they continue to churn up enough numbers.

This show lost its mojo before it even got it. The acting is simply awful from Bennet and Dalton. I'm not sure if they are purposely portraying their characters this way or if its just that they are not good actors. The characters are poorly developped and not enough action happens to keep me interested. If it works for you great, I hope it keeps you entertained! It's just not for this guy.

The show is ok. Nothing more, nothing less. I think the problem is that these are not really agents of shield. It's like 2 agents of shield, the mentor, and various rookies. This group doesn't really feel like a part of SHIELD. I know the show doesn't have the budget to show the helicarrier every episode, but it would be nice to see what the rest of SHIELD is doing instead of helping out this inexperienced team every week.

I would not pretend to understand how these things work with studios. But you would think, since this is such a big part of the Marvel Universe, that they would have dropped a bit more money into this show to give it the treatment it deserves. If the studio doesn't have the money because they are making more movies, then why do a show half-assed? Do it once, do it right.

It's a question of demographics. Yes, the agents of SHIELD should look like Paul Guilfoyle, William Peterson, Robert David Hall, Ted Danson, Marc Vann and Laurence Fishburne but even shows like CSI have younger characters for the young viewers to relate to. And Ming Na Wen is older than you think: she'll turn 50 on November 20th. FIFTY!

I think it's a decent show. It's good to see Clark Gregg return, it's been pretty entertaining so far, production values are solid and even though it has plenty of derivative elements, overall it's far from the worst thing on TV. It's got a bit of a throwback vibe with the "team whose home base is a vehicle" thing, almost like Airwolf or the A-Team but all sexy-d up (if that makes any sense). Chloe Bennet is gorgeous and that's one badass plane. On the whole though, I think I prefer Arrow,

I saw 3 of the first 4 episodes and do not make it a point to watch anymore

If I am home with nothing else to do and it is on, I may watch again. I will probably watch (maybe) next week as it is supposed to tie into the Thor movie, but I am still undecided as the show is pretty crappy. I had hoped for more when the show was announced and in the months prior to the premier, but it has been a big letdown.

I don't watch tv on the regular. I only have two shows that i watch each week. The Walking Dead and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I'm watching this until they take it off. What most people don't get it is that it is in fact leading up to and working beside the movie universe. I love this show and always will.

Finding its footing

This show reminds me of Grimm. They both have 6 major characters and no clear adversary. The 2nd episode was the only good one so far as it was a classic team building trope. Ensemble drama relies on the drama to keep audience engaged. Ensemble comedy relies on jokes from all directions. Ensemble action is hard, especially introduced at once. Ideally you want a central figure that draws the audience in, as SLOWLY more members jump on board. Each new member is different and adds its own audience

Ideally you want a central figure that draws the audience in, as SLOWLY more members jump on board. Each new member is different and adds its own audience favorite. When you get all your major players at once with no direct villain, the episodes have to be the engagement, while the characters develop. That has been SHIELD's problem, the episodes have not been strong enough to draw in to six different characters. My feeling from the get go was, it is a cash cow that will be green lit for two seasons unless no one watched it, but it was gonna take a full season to take these characters and turn them into something interesting. There are hints, but it was setup as 4 naive specialists, and two weary veterans, which makes me think they were going to have a chance to believably make these characters grow into an elite team. They are a rare avenue where they probably have 100% support and can really build up the layers and not worry about ratings. Firefly had to have every episode perfect to gain another episode. Season one will end with a very clear nemesis, the naivety gone, the team able to work off each other on instinct, and a clear agenda and goal for every team member. Season 2 starts with a bang and be able to establish a consistent ratings point. Add a couple recurring characters that may get the regular nod, if it goes on, add a heavy weight to change up the dynamics and add depth, or collapse, but if NCIS and BONES two good shows with large casts can go for 5+ seasons before hitting their stride, the megalith that is Disney can cover a few slow growth seasons.

Still Haven't Seen It...

sadly enough. I've always been tied up with family things on Tuesdays and was hoping to see it in reruns soon. Now, I may be able to catch a few on Tuesdays (for now).

I'll wait and give my opinions then.

If history has taught me anythingits that sticking around may not deliver. I recall doing this three times. I stuck with Millennium and was rewarded with two great end of season 1 episodes and the awesomeness that was season 2. However, since then, I stuck around for First Wave and V (the remake). Neither really rewarded methoughI guess V did end on an interesting cliff hanger. Ill stick around for Shield because (a) its Marvel, (b) Ive always liked Whedons shows and most

I did expect some eventual link to the movies...and did think Winter Soldier would present the best chance of that...so happy to hear this news. StillI just finished watching the fourth episode of Arrow season 2 a few minutes ago what an awesome series. With Walking Dead season 4 and Shield leaving me unsatisfiedArrow is a breath of fresh air!

I actually enjoy the show. It's nothing spectacular, but I'll still check it out a few days after it's aired. It's not exactly something I get fired up for each week, but it's an enjoyable passing of 30 minutes. Plus, I like the Easter eggs that pop up here and there, that tie in with the Marvel lore.

I gave up after two episodes. There's a good show in there, but I can't get past Dalton and Bennet as Ward and Skye. I can't tell if they're just lame characters, bad actors, or all of the above. The show just seems to be going through the motions, not to mention the first episode simply recycled Iron Man 3's plot! Push the envelope a little better and just center it around Coulson and you could have much better show.

Should have kept watching... the plot from the first episode comes back around again, and it's not exactly rehashing Iron Man 3 either.

I've

accepted the show for what it is......and not what i wanted it to be. Its not bad, there are a lot of other crap shows that are far worst than this one. But if DC can take a lesson from Marvel for their movie verse. Then Marvel can take a lesson from DC on how to do their tv shows. It would be nice to see a major villian, or hero show up. And who knows maybe it will in later eps or later seasons. Im willing to watch it til the end to see. Some shows take a while to pick up steam, other shows

This series is mediocre, wanted it to be bigger, more immense in scope. But realize that their is budget constraints. Definitively the best show in its genre at the moment.

I stopped after the 4th episode. Apart from the Agent Coulson everything about it is incredibly bland. I know the world Marvel isn't exactly the most believable, but am I supposed to believe every spy, hacker and member of the military is incredibly good looking. They need to link to the films to make it interesting.

Arrow was just "okay" when it aired too so I will give Agents of Shield more time. Sometimes the first season can be blah or mediocre then the 2nd season gets more interesting. The biggest problem with AofS is that the characters are kinda boring. Clark Gregg as Coulson is always good and and Skye's character, as well as her acting, comedic timing and the fact that she is very sexy, are also good for the show. I think Ward is too young looking and needs something more developed about him. Ming

Ming Na Wen's character has potential but the 2 scientists are kind of dull and seem there with purpose but mostly purposeless...if you know what I mean. Like they are there but don't need to be until they need to be and still really don't need to be.
I'm giving the show a fair chance, but it needs LESS "I was with the Avengers" nods and more actual stories that work as well as be fun. That's great if they want to link the season finale to Winter Soldier, but AofS still needs to stand on its own two feet first instead of constantly piggybacking off the Marvel Universe movies.
As a Joss Wedon fan and I loved Buffy and Firefly, I know this show can do better.

The show isn't terrible, but it isn't that great either however, tying it in closer to the movies of the MCU will definitely be a step in the right direction.

The show is ok, with this and Arrow I can at least get my superhero fix during the week. But it's hardly edge of your seat entertainment, it's just sort of....there.
That being said, this sounds promising. Using the show as a lead-in to the cinematic universe. Obviously season 1 has been dealing with the fall out of Avengers and Iron Man 3, but to have it set up Captain America, and perhaps season 2 deals with the fall out of Captain America 2 and season 2 can then be used as a lead-in to

Still Here

It's not a bad show, but not great. I stick around because it's what I have of the MCU for now. Little things like the tease of Graviton made me giddy like a school girl. As long as it keeps doing that and linking to "smaller" parts of the Marvel comics to the MCU, I'm all for watching the show for the next x number of years.

American Horror Story and Arrow are just o.k., Simpsons & South Park are a given (I didn't want to include animated shows, because that's a whole different sport), & Mad Men is not on until 2014 (if you're going to throw in Mad Men, then Shameless must be included as well - hence the reason that I said "at this moment"). The other shows I've never even heard of.
