Regina Hall says the Flossy Posse will be back for a Girls Trip sequel

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Awwwwwww yeah! Ain't no party like a Flossy Posse party, cause a Flossy Posse party don't stop! Are you ready to get loud? Well then make some noise for Regina Hall, who in a recent sit down with AM to DM by Buzzfeed News said that "the girls are coming back" for a sequel to the surprise smash-hit comedy GIRLS TRIP.

“We’re trying to make that happen,” Hall revealed to BuzzFeed News’ AM to DM. “So we’re trying to get everything together with the schedule. I think they’re working on something. I don’t know where we’re going. I don’t know where the girls are going, but… we’re going somewhere.”

For those of you who are all like, "GIRLS TRIP, when did this go down?" The aforementioned Malcolm D. Lee-directed comedy was released in the summer of 2017, and starred a stellar cast made up of Regina Hall, Tiffany Haddish, Queen Latifah, and Jada Pinkett Smith. The uproarious comedy revolved around four college friends reuniting at Essence Fest in New Orleans where they partied like it was 1999, did some deep soul-searching, and strengthened their bonds of friendship in ways they'd never anticipated. By the time the party had come to an end in theaters, GIRLS TRIP earned a more-than-respectable $140.4 million in worldwide box office receipts.

Recently, Lee told Entertainment Weekly that "we'd like to" in regard to creating a sequel. “The audience really took to it, I think they’d want to see what the Flossy Posse is up to next and I’m hoping that we can make that happen and bring that to the masses.” He then added, “It has to be a little bit bigger, it has to be just as good, just as funny, just as outrageous and that takes time. We’ve got to figure out how that’s all going to come together and coalesce in a script and make it worth our time as filmmakers, their time as actors, and the audience’s time as consumers. So we don’t want to do it if it’s not going to be great. We want to make sure that it’s a quality piece of work.”

Even Tiffany Haddish, whose Hollywood dance card is simply overflowing these days, has stated that she's been “constantly bothering the studios" about going ahead with a follow-up to the girl power-friendly film.

“Every time I see one of the executives, I say, ‘When are we doing Girls Trip 2? How’s it going to work out? Here, I have a few ideas,’” says Haddish. “I’m like writing it myself. I’m so ready for Girls Trip 2 to happen. And so is Jada and Queen Latifah and Regina, we all talk about it. We talk to each other at least once or twice a month, like ‘What do you think? What about this idea?’ I’m like, we should just write it ourselves and then present it to the studio, like, ‘When are we going to shoot this?’”

As my mom would say, "You go girl!" Yes, she still uses that expression quite often. It's a little embarrassing, but hey, she's my mom, so she gets a pass, every time. I've no doubt that there are lots of women (and men) who would be overjoyed at the idea of another GIRLS TRIP being in the works, and it would appear as if now's a good time to start celebrating. Here's hoping for a more official announcement real soon, as both the cast and fans are clearly ready to raise the roof with the Flossy Posse, once again.
