Shailene Woodley refuses to join Divergent: Ascendant TV movie

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

The DIVERGENT series is a run-of-the-mill young adult dystopian future thing that's so innocuous, it almost plays like parody. It has its fans, and if you're one of them, that's cool. The one thing that can't be disputed though, is that while it fared better than most would-be franchises (*cough* MORTAL INSTRUMENTS *cough*), it still wasn't as successful or as recognizable as similar films in the genre. The first DIVERGENT film did well at the box-office, but it was diminishing returns from there, with the last film ALLEGIANT doing so poorly that it caused Lionsgate's stocks to plummet.

Anyway, in an interview with Screen Rant Shailene Woodley, star of the DIVERGENT films, speaks out on her current involvement in the franchise:

Last I heard they were trying to make it into a television show. I didn’t sign up to be in a television show. Out of respect to the studio and everyone in involved, they may have changed their mind and may be doing something different, but I’m not necessarily interested in doing a television show.

So it looks like things are still up in the air for the DIVERGENT series. I'd say I hope for the best, but I honestly keep forgetting this series exists, and probably will again the moment I publish this article. But if you are a fan, I at least hope the best for you. You deserve something for sticking it out this long.
