Robert Pattinson joins James Gray’s The Lost City of Z with Benedict Cumberbatch

Robert Pattinson might not be the most loved actor on this site, but you have to give him props for working with some very talented filmmakers. The Wrap has learned that the TWILIGHT actor has signed on for THE LOST CITY OF Z with director James Gray. The film is an adaptation of the David Gunn novel of the same name, and Benedict Cumberbatch was cast as Percy Fawcett back in September.

Book description:

It tells the story of the legendary British explorer Percy Fawcett who, in 1925, disappeared with his son in the Amazon while looking for an ancient lost city. For decades, explorers and scientists have tried to find evidence of his party and the Lost City of Z. Perhaps as many as 100 people perished or disappeared searching for Fawcett over the years. Grann made his own journey into the Amazon, revealing new evidence about how Fawcett died and showing that Z may have really existed right under his feet.

No word on who Robert Pattinson will be playing in THE LOST CITY OF Z, but there's a good chance he will be one of Fawcett's companions in the Brazilian jungle. I know for some having Pattinson in THE LOST CITY OF Z is a deal breaker, but I feel like he's shown he is capable of more than just starring at teenage girls in his films, and I think he'll do just fine in a movie like this.
