A good science fiction flick is a hard thing to come by. A good international science fiction flick is even harder. I think the last one I remember hearing about was Nacho Vigalondo’s TIMECRIMES. I’m sure you guys know exactly what I’m talking about, right?
Well it’s with that in mind that I come here today to tell you all about a Mexican sci-fi flick that has just been snatched up for US distribution. The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog has 24Frames picking up Angel Mario Huerta’s SERES: GENESIS for North American distribution! So what’s the rundown for this bad larry? Check it:
The movie’s tale is set in motion when a young girl is found amid the wreckage of an accident caused by an alien craft. The head of a secretive task force investigating the paranormal, played by telenovela star Alejandra Barros (below), must solve the riddle of a frightening message delivered by the girl which suggests humanity is on the verge of extermination by a hostile alien force.

SERES: GENESIS is actually the first of a trilogy based on the Mexican graphic novel series. The first installment of the series is getting an English-language treatment this October.
