According to The Hollywood Reporter, Henry Lee Hopper, Denzel Whitaker, Shareeka Epps, and Emily Meade (right) have all been cast in Wes Craven’s upcoming horror flick 25/8 for Rogue Pictures. Wait–who??? Ok, so they’re a bunch of no-names, but Craven’s going ‘indie’ here, so that’s to be expected.
Casting unknowns is also part of Craven’s genius tactic for the flick–by casting no one you know, he’s hoping that you won’t be able to tell who’s going to live… and who’s going to die! Cool, eh? Smart too, considering if a ‘big name’ was in it, you could pretty much count on that person to make it to the sequel (with the exception of Drew Barrymore in Craven’s own SCREAM, of course).
Hopper (son of Dennis Hopper) will be making his big-screen debut with this one, starring as Bug, the ‘lead’ in the flick, and one of seven teens haunted by a serial killer who supposedly died when they were born 15 years earlier. The film takes place over the course of a day as the mystery of who (or what) is stalking the small-town high schoolers unfolds.
Sounds like fun… it also sounds like it’s right up Craven’s alley, showcasing what the man does best–high school slasher movies. Welcome back, sir! It’s nice to see he has another project up his sleeve, and best of all… it’s original!
Filming begins in just a few weeks in Connecticut, so get ready for more news and updates on 25/8 (like, maybe, a new title!!!) as we hear it!
