News we've been expecting to hear for a while now has been officially announced this morning: Elisabeth Moss will be playing a role in Universal's upcoming reboot of their classic property THE INVISIBLE MAN. Word that Moss was being considered for a role first started going around in March, and a few weeks ago she dodged a question about the project in an interview and stirred up speculation that it could really be a new version of THE INVISIBLE WOMAN.

Once set up with Ed Solomon working on the screenplay and Johnny Depp attached to star, the reboot of THE INVISIBLE MAN is now coming to us from writer/director Leigh Whannell and Blumhouse Productions. Whannell and Blumhouse have previously collaborated on the INSIDIOUS franchise and UPGRADE.

THE INVISIBLE MAN is also a reunion for Moss and Blumhouse's Jason Blum, who served as a producer on the current box office hit US (pictured above). Moss doesn't have a lot of screen time in that film, but the dual roles she plays are memorable.

Moss is rumored to be playing a character named Cecilia Kass in THE INVISIBLE MAN, with Armie Hammer and Alexander Skarsgard among the actors up for the role of Adrian Griffin,

a billionaire sociopath who made his money by developing an invisibility suit for the Department of Defense.

Blum has said that this will be

a lower-budget movie. It’s not dependent on special effects, CGI, stunts. It’s super character-driven, it’s really compelling, it’s thrilling, it’s edgy, it feels new."

THE INVISIBLE MAN will be filmed in Whannell's home country of Australia.
