After exploding onto the big screen in next year's The Suicide Squad, John Cena's character, Peacemaker, will be getting his own spinoff series on HBO Max. Cena will reprise his anti-hero role for the show in addition to acting as an executive producer. It's to be understood that Peacemaker will be an R-rated affair, so it was more than a little strange when The Vulcan Reporter printed a story saying that an edited version of the series will air on The CW.

Not long after the article went online, Peacemaker creative James Gunn arrived to shut Vulcan Reporter's churning of the rumor mill down full-stop. He did so by simply tweeting "Lol. No. If we edited it for broadcast TV it would be forty seconds long."

In the wake of the lukewarm reception for Wonder Woman 1984, Gunn's soft reboot of David Ayer's anti-hero movie looks to be Warner Bros' next opportunity to establish the DCEU on screens big and small. The highly-anticipated project stars a rogues' gallery of greats including Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, Viola Davis, Nathan Fillion, John Cena, Peter Capaldi, Michael Rooker as well as several others. Meanwhile, Peacemaker will be written and produced by Gunn and will serve as an origin story for Cena's shoot first and ask questions later character. Joining Cena for the series are actors Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Chris Conrad, Chukwudi Iwuji, Lochlyn Munro, Annie Chang, and Christopher Heyerdahl. Consisting of eight action-packed episodes, Peacemaker aims to give DC fans yet another reason to subscribe to HBO Max, assuming they haven't already.
