Joaquin Phoenix may star in Ari Aster’s next horror film Beau Is Afraid

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

joaquin phoenix ari aster beau is afraidWell, milk my teats and call me a cow! It would appear that the horror industry's latest golden boy, Ari Aster (HEREDITARY, MIDSOMMAR), may score reigning Best Actor Oscar-winner Joaquin Phoenix for his next foray into the fright! The film is titled BEAU IS AFRAID and the writer/director describes it simply as "a four-hour nightmare comedy."

The feature would be based on a short Aster made in 2011 called BEAU. The longer version's synopsis will be a surrealist horror film set in an alternate present where Phoenix’s character would play an extremely anxious but pleasant-looking man who has a fraught relationship with his overbearing mother and never knew his father. When his mother dies, he makes a journey home that involves some wild supernatural threats.

Sounds like some hints of JOKER are in there, however I'm certain BEAU IS AFRAID won't be anything like the clown prince's origin story. How do you guys feel about this one? Do you think Aster will go three-for-three with acclaimed horror movies? Or do you find his work dull? Fire them comments below!
