Disney's D23 celebration is officially underway, and as part of today's festivities, the House of Mouse has allowed a brand new poster for the remake of one of their most beloved classics, LADY AND THE TRAMP, off its leash. The print recreates perhaps the most iconic scene from the original animated film, in which Lady and Tramp share a plate of spaghetti and meatballs courtesy of Tony and Lou, two Italian chefs who delight in sharing their culinary gifts with anyone who appreciates fine dining.
Made exclusively for the upcoming streaming service Disney+, the remake follows the story of a well-to-do American Cocker Spaniel named Lady (voiced by Tessa Thompson) who falls in love with a street-wise Schnauzer mix named Tramp (voiced by Justin Theroux). Of course, there are still plenty of puppers to be featured in the film, including Sam Elliott as Trusty, a Bloodhound, Ashley Jensen as Jock, a Scottish Terrier, Benedict Wong as Bull, a Bulldog and Janelle Monáe as Peg, a Pekingese. To help give you your daily dose of "Awww!", the actual dogs that star in the family-friendly film were portrayed by shelter dogs, and each one was adopted and given their “forever home” after production wrapped. *Sniff* What? I'm not crying. You're the one who's crying!
Directing LADY AND THE TRAMP exclusively for Disney+ is Charlie Bean (THE LEGO NINJAGO MOVIE) from a script penned by Andrew Bujalski (SUPPORT THE GIRLS), with Monáe performing three new songs for the movie, including a re-tooled version of "The Siamese Cat Song." Why a revamped version, you ask? Well, the version performed in the 1955 animated original has since been deemed quite racist, so yeah, Disney's just gonna go ahead and give it a little tweak.
The hope is that in addition to the new poster reveal, D23 will also yield a trailer for the upcoming film. We'll be sure to keep you posted. In the meantime, LADY AND THE TRAMP is expected to arrive on the streaming service when it goes live on November 12.
