Infinity Pool: Alexander Skarsgard to star in Brandon Cronenberg thriller

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Director Brandon Cronenberg, the son of the legendary David Cronenberg, blew a lot of minds with his 2020 sci-fi horror film Possessor (watch it HERE), and he'll already be going into production on his next project in September. It has been announced that Alexander Skarsgard of True Blood, Godzilla vs. Kong, and The Stand has signed on to star in Cronenberg's sci-fi thriller Infinity Pool, which is scheduled to begin filming on September 6th.

Brandon Cronenberg has also written the screenplay for Infinity Pool, as he did on both Possessor and his first feature Antiviral. This time, he's telling the following story:

James and Em are young, rich, in love, and on vacation. Their all-inclusive resort boasts island tours and gleaming beaches. But outside of the hotel gates waits something much more dangerous and seductive, beyond the edge of paradise.

Financing for the film is coming from NEON, Topic Studios, Telefilm Canada, and the Croatian Film Fund. Film Forge's Karen Harnisch and Andrew Cividino, Elevation Pictures' Noah Segal and Christina Piovesan, and Rob Cotterill are the producers, with Daniel Kresmery and Jonathan Halperyn co-producing for Hero Squared and Anita Juka doing the same for 4 Film. Skarsgard serves as executive producer alongside NEON's Tom Quinn, Jeff Deutchman, and Emily Thomas, Topic Studios' Michael Bloom, Maria Zuckerman, and Ryan Heller, and Celluloid Dreams' Hengameh Panahi and Charlotte Mickie.

NEON will be releasing Infinity Pool in the United States, while Elevation Pictures is the Canadian distributor.

Here's where I have to confess that I haven't watched Brandon Cronenberg's previous movies yet, but I intend to get around to watching them one of these days. Infinity Pool sounds interesting, I look forward to finding out what the "dangerous and seductive" element is in the story – and to seeing who will be cast as the female lead opposite Skarsgard.

We'll keep you updated on Infinity Pool as it continues to move forward.
