Throw your hands in the air and wave your lightsabers like you just don't care, because the California Legislature voted this afternoon to officially observe May the 4th as 'Star Wars Day' in recognition of Disneyland's Galaxy's Edge theme park scheduled to open later this month! Traditionally, May the 4th has been celebrated as 'Star Wars Day' by fans of the franchise for years, thanks to a spin on the Star Wars phrase "may the force be with you." Now, while making the day official won't seem like much to fans that have participated in the day's festivities for some time, it does pay homage to Disney launching the largest single-site expansion in the park's history. The resolution was passed by Democratic Assemblyman Tom Daly, who's quite stoked about the new attraction generating a possible $14 million in tax revenue for the city of Anaheim annually.

As a part of the 'Star Wars Day' declaration, a charity group dressed as Stormtroopers marched on the Capitol this afternoon, a hot air balloon resembling Yoda, the Jedi Master, flew alongside them.

When the Star Wars Galaxy's Edge park opens later this month, guests will be invited to explore a world inspired by the uber-popular sci-fi saga with rides like “Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run” and “Rise of the Resistance” – attractions that let you pilot the Falcon and infiltrate the First Order. Set on the planet Batuu, the two main attractions will be located across a vast new park that also includes restaurants, shops and other, smaller attractions. The idea is for guests to feel as if they’re on a new planet filled with creatures and foreign dangers lurking around every corner. It's an "anything goes" setup, with lots of fun surprises planned for children and adults alike.

I hope you all enjoy this year's Star Wars Day, which will officially go down this Saturday. May the 4th be with you, always.
