Both Bond 25 and Fast & Furious 9 find their release dates pushed back

Here's a little release date shuffle to bring your Friday to a close. The twenty-fifth James Bond film, which will serve as Daniel Craig's fifth and final time playing the secret-agent, was slated to hit theaters on February 14, 2020, but now Eon Productions have announced that the film will arrive several months later on April 8, 2020. Another long-running franchise (although not nearly as long-lived as the Bond franchise) has also seen their release date shifted as Universal Pictures have moved the ninth installment of the FAST &FURIOUS franchise from April 10, 2020 to May 22, 2020.

BOND 25's shift finds the film moving into a release period with little competition at the moment, as the only other films surrounding BOND 25's new release date are an untitled animated film from Sony Pictures and the sequel to TROLLS. Meanwhile, FAST & FURIOUS 9 moves into a slightly busier slate as the film is now in direct competition with GODZILLA VS. KONG and THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE 3: IT'S A WONDERFUL SPONGE. Not much is known about FAST & FURIOUS 9 just yet, only that it will be directed by franchise veteran Justin Lin and Dwayne Johnson will not be appearing as Luke Hobbs. "The plan has always been for the Fast and Furious universe to grow and expand. As of now, we’re not in Fast 9 because they’re getting ready to start shooting," Johnson said last month. "But who knows with Fast 10 and down the road, you never know. Because look, at the end of the day, the truth is, there’s unfinished business between Hobbs and Dom. It’s unfinished." As for BOND 25, the film will be helmed by True Detective's Cary Fukunaga and will reportedly find Lea Seydoux returning as Dr. Madeleine Swann, the psychologist and Bond love-interest first introduced in SPECTRE.

So, there you have it, BOND 25 will hit theaters on April 8, 2020, followed by FAST & FURIOUS 9 on May 22, 2020.
