There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call The Twilight Zone, and it's been announced that HOUSE OF CARDS actor Greg Kinnear will be joining the cast of Jordan Peele's upcoming reboot of the classic sci-fi series.
Upon venturing into "the Zone," Kinnear will star alongside THE WALKING DEAD's Steven Yeun for the episode "The Traveler." Much like the curious dimension upon which the show is based, the plot for "The Traveler" is shrouded in mystery, as are descriptions for either Kinnear or Yeun's characters in the upcoming episode.
Others set to join the rebooted series executively-produced and narrated by Peele are previously announced castmembers John Cho (SEARCHING, HAROLD AND KUMAR GO TO WHITE CASTLE), Allison Tolman (KRAMPUS, BROOKLYN 99), Jacob Tremblay (ROOM, DOCTOR SLEEP), Sanaa Lathan (LOVE & BASKETBALL, AVP: ALIEN VS. PREDATOR), Adam Scott (LITTLE EVIL, PARKS AND RECREATION) and Kumail Nanjiani (THE BIG SICK, CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE).
The original otherworldly series was created by Rod Serling, which ran for 80 episodes from 1959 to 1964. As a New Year's Eve marathon mainstay and group favorite of my fifth grade AV Club, THE TWILIGHT ZONE challenged its audience by telling socially-relevant stories under a sci-fi veneer that shed a dark light on the human condition. Serling's thought-provoking and entertaining program was rebooted in 1985 to the tune of 110 episodes, and again in the early 2000s with Forest Whitaker serving as the show's omniscient narrator.
I don't know about you, but I am pumped for Peele's reboot of THE TWILIGHT ZONE! I'm still waiting to hear if there are plans to reboot some of my favorite episodes, but I like the idea of being surprised as well. That being said, if I had my way, I'd want to see revisions of episodes like The Dummy, Time Enough at Last, Eye of the Beholder, The Lonely, The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street, and A Penny For Your Thoughts.
