Tom Hanks gets neighborly in first pic for the Untitled Mister Rogers film

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Hello boys and girls, it’s so nice to see you on this beautiful day. Would you care join me for a first look at Tom Hanks as Mister Rogers for Tri Star Pictures’ UNTITLED MR. ROGERS film project? I think it would be real nice if we could share this experience together, as it’s likely to bring a smile to our faces, and I sure don’t get tired of smiling, do you?

Here, take a look at the photo for yourself below, then we’ll talk about the specifics of the upcoming film. Doesn’t that sound grand? I certainly think so.

In the UNTITLED MR. ROGERS film, Tom Hanks will portray the kindly host of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, for a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. After a jaded magazine writer (Emmy winner Matthew Rhys) is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about empathy, kindness, and decency from America’s most beloved neighbor.

Directed by Marielle Heller (THE DIARY OF A TEENAGE GIRL, POPSTAR: NEVER STOP NEVER STOPPING) and written by Noah Harpster and Micah Fitzerman-Blue, the upcoming film is inspired by the novel Can You Say … Hero? by Tom Junod. Starring alongside Hanks for the biographical drama are Matthew Rhys (THE AMERICANS, BURNT), Susan Kelechi Watson (THIS IS US, BLACKLIST) and Chris Cooper (AMERICAN BEAUTY, BREACH).

Heller and Hanks’ UNTITLED MR. ROGERS feature is scheduled to welcome you to the neighborhood in theaters on October 18, 2019.
