New Ready Player One trailer dazzles with ’80s-inspired excellence!

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Whoa! Is it just me, or did you feel like the dude in that Maxell commerical while watching the new "DREAMER" trailer for Steven Spielberg's READY PLAYER ONE? Set to arive in theaters on March 29th, READY PLAYER ONE looks to be pulling out all the stops when preparing to knock the socks off ticket-holding millennials, who are bound to fall hard for the fantasy film's inclusion of countless pop culture icons from the glorious '80s. Seriously, I mean, did you see the tyrannosaurus rex stomping about the city as the DeLorean from BACK TO THE FUTURE sped passed its massive, crushing feet? Or the IRON GIANT shooting frickin' laser beams out of its mechanized eyeholes? All I'm saying is, don't be surprised if you hear the sound of click-counters in your theater, as moviegoers feverishly attempt to count the amount of times they squee with nostalgia during this movie.

Here is the film's official synopsis:

The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.

As I sit in my office, listening to the 'Bring Back the 80s' station on Spotify, I can't help but marvel at how overwhelmingly cool I think this footage truly is. While I admit to not being a mega-fan of the Ernest Cline novel upon which the upcoming film is based, I totally cop to the fact that I am now super pumped about the release of this film. For real, I plan to go opening weekend and everything.

Will you be there? Are you excited for READY PLAYER ONE? Did you love you the novel? Let us know all your thoughts and feelings in the comments section below.

READY PLAYER ONE will likely dominate the box office when it opens on March 29th.
