Say goodbye to George Clooney’s Danny Ocean and hello to Sandra Bullock as his sister Debbie, who is assembling a team of her own thieving ladies. On her team are Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, Rihanna, Awkwafina and Helena Bonham Carter, and they’re all here in the first trailer for OCEAN’S 8, plotting to steal an insanely valuable diamond necklace off the neck of Anne Hathaway. They could probably just ask for it. Hathway seems nice.
Gary Ross takes over the franchise here from Steven Soderbergh, who directed OCEAN'S ELEVEN, TWELVE and THIRTEEN, and who I'm gonna miss behind the camera. He has a distinct visual style that made the OCEAN'S movies standout. Not that Ross is a bad choice at all, and the movie he's made looks pretty good. The tone seems similar to the original movies; the cast is great and; the humor is all there. All in all, this looks like a fun summer heist comedy that gives a new cast time to shine. Although, I will say there should always be a slot open for Elliot Gould on any team.
