Go Go Power Rangers sequel! Franchise might still have legs, thanks to toys

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Now I've made it no secret that I enjoyed this year's new take on the POWER RANGERS. I thought it had a lot of energy, I loved the cast, the action, and I think it was probably the best you could do with such a hokey property. It wasn't perfect (too much product placement, some dodgy CGI, etc.), but I wouldn't mind a sequel. So it was disappointing to hear that it underperformed in China, seemingly dashing all hopes for a franchise.

But it looks like there's still hope! According to ToyNews (via ScreenRant), POWER RANGERS was "ranked as the number one action figures brand, according to NPD data" and that "Power Rangers has proven its position not only as a classic brand but as a must-have toy in such a competitive market place." While, admittedly, a lot of this attributable to the new popular NINJA STEEL TV series, it could definitely look favorably to the film as well, as regardless figures saw an increase of 185.9% increase from the same time last year. If that's the case, it's possible that the surprise jump in toy sales could make the film series still a profitable venture. Not only that, but Japan is still a major market, and it will be released there July 15th, so the jury is still out on this one. I for one am crossing my fingers.

But what about you Schmoes? Would you be down for another POWER RANGERS film? Either way, sound off below!

Meanwhile, POWER RANGERS will be released to Blu-Ray and DVD June 27th, 2017 and available on Digital HD from Amazon Video and iTunes on June 13th, 2017.
