Clive Owen will return as the BMW driver in Neill Blomkamp’s The Escape

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Launched in 2001, BMW Films’ THE HIRE was a series of eight online short films starring Clive Owen as an enigmatic driver for hire. Each film was a unique story brought to life by acclaimed filmmakers such as John Frankenheimer, Ang Lee, Wong Kar Wai, Guy Ritchie, Alejandro González Iñárritu, John Woo, Joe Carnahan and Tony Scott. Critically-acclaimed for their time, the films have amassed a bit of a cult following, and it looks like BMW Films will return with another entry in THE ESCAPE.

I really loved THE HIRE when it first hit, as there wasn’t anything out there like it at the time. I mean, here were these big-budget BMW commercials, essentially, but featuring a kick-ass lead character and real directors behind the camera. Furthermore, the short film format kept things from getting stale (looking at you, TRANSPORTER series). In one moth’s time, we’ll get to sit down and watch a new 11-minute entry directed by Neill Blomkamp and starring Clive Owen, Dakota Fanning, Jon Bernthal and Vera Farmiga. I can’t wait!

THE ESCAPE will premiere online on Sunday, October 23rd at 6:00 p.m. EST.
