Captain America may be looking to trade in his all-American super soldier image for something a little bit darker as Deadline is reporting that Chris Evans is currently circling the lead role in a feature adaptation of BBC's Jekyll mini-series from close to a decade ago.

Written by Steven Moffat (Sherlock), the Jekyll mini-series followed Tom Jackman, a modern-day descendant of the original Jekyll who is beginning to transform into Mr. Hyde and then abandons his family without explaining why. After setting up a fortified basement with a psychiatric nurse (Michelle Ryan) to monitor him, Jackman and Hyde attempt to coexist all while sharing the same body and using micro-cassettes to leave messages for each other. James Nesbitt (THE HOBBIT) played both Jackman and Hyde in the mini-series and, from what I remember, did one heck of a job with the role. There's no director attached to the Lionsgate project at the moment but Anthony Bagarozzi & Charles Mondry (DOC SAVAGE) have penned a script.

This isn't the only Jekyll/Hyde project in the works, Russell Crowe is set to play the character in Universal's upcoming shared universe focusing on their famous monsters. Crowe will first appear as Dr. Henry Jekyll in Tom Cruise's THE MUMMY on June 9, 2017 before likely taking center stage for his own standalone Jekyll film in the future.
