An unexpected romance blooms after the youngest daughter of a merchant who has fallen on hard times offers herself to the mysterious beast to which her father has become indebted. Somewhat familiar story line, but this French adaptation of BEAUTY AND THE BEST or La Belle et la Bête, offers up some stark contrasts in comparison to what we'll probably see with Disney's live-action iteration. Christophe Gans (SILENT HILL, BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF) isn't exactly breaking andy speed records when it comes to directing films, so I'm curious to see what it was about this story that drew him to it. Of course, the two leads are fantastic but the effects are only so-so. At the very least, this should offer up a nice substitute for those who aren't into song and dance numbers.
Christophe Gans' BEAUTY AND THE BEAST will see a theatrical run sometime in September.
