Chris Pine talks Wonder Woman character, praises Patty Jenkins’ direction

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The DC Cinematic Universe is kicking off in a big way this year with both BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE and SUICIDE SQUAD making their debuts, but production on the first film for one of DC's biggest heroes is still underway. Gal Gadot will be making her first appearance as Wonder Woman in the upcoming BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, but the heroic Amazon will finally be taking center stage in her own film which is under the direction of Patty Jenkins. Chris Pine, who co-stars alongside Gal Gadot as Steve Trevor, recently spoke with The Toronto Sun and spilled a few details about his character.

Steve Trevor is a rogue-ish, cynical realist who’s seen the awful brutish nature of modern civilization, he’s a worldly guy, a charming guy and it’s going to be a great, fun film.

Chris Pine also praised Patty Jenkins' direction on WONDER WOMAN as well as professing his admiration for the production design of the WWI segments.

There are some incredibly deep, interesting and morally relevant themes. Patty is just directing the daylights out of it. It’s shot beautifully, feels so wonderfully period, but also has this wonderful pop sensibility. It’s a period we don’t see often; it’s usually World War II. Our costume design is incredible. We have scenes with, like, 500 extras all in period dress. I’d never been on a film with extras casting as beautifully done as it is here. It highlights a really important point. When background casting is done well, it can make or break a scene. I’ve got people in deep background that have entire lives. It’s awesome, it’s actual make-believe land.
