The scary new trailer for Insidious: Chapter 3 will keep you up tonight

While the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY franchise seemed to burn itself out after a couple of sequels, Leigh Whannell and James Wan have managed to make two consecutive INSIDIOUS films that haven't diminished in quality very much. With Wan departing for FURIOUS 7, Leigh Whannell took over as director on INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 which looks like it may be the rare third horror movie that is as good as it's predecessors.

With Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne gone, INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 depends on Dermot Mulroney in the lead, but from the looks of this new trailer, the film really belongs to Lin Shaye.

This chilling prequel, set before the haunting of the Lambert family, reveals how gifted psychic Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl (Stefanie Scott) who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity.

Shaye's character has been the thread through all three films, along with Whannell and Angus Sampson as Specs and Tucker, who have bigger roles in the new movie. What seems to set INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 apart from other horror series is the supernatural realm of The Further which really gives the filmmakers the freedom to take the story in several directions.

Hopefully INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3 is as thrilling as this trailer sets it up to be. We can find out when it hits theaters on June 5th.
