Mike Myers signs a two year first look deal with HBO

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

While he hasn’t turned in a box office hit as an actor in several years, Mike Myers proved himself an adept filmmaker with last year’s documentary SUPERMENSCH: THE LEGEND OF SHEP GORDON. Now, Myers has entered into a new deal with HBO that should give him a creative forum to make more interesting projects. Deadline reports that the deal is an overall agreement between Myers and the cable network over the next two years.

HBO president Michael Lombardo issued this statement about the deal.

Mike Myers is one of the great comedy minds of this or any other era. The opportunity to collaborate with a talent of his stature is tremendously exciting.”

Myers himself said he is thrilled to be at HBO. I am excited as HBO has always had more creative freedom than many movie studios which will afford Mike Myers the ability to craft films, series, or documentaries on any number of subjects without adhering to the MPAA or theatrical box office. Myers, when left to his own devices, is capable of great things. Personally, I think SO I MARRIED AN AXE MURDERER to be his best movie despite being his least successful. Here’s hoping this deal with HBO lets him get some passion projects made like a film about The Who’s Keith Moon.
