This international trailer for Jupiter Ascending shares new action scenes

The Wachowskis have a daunting task with JUPITER ASCENDING. How can you convince audiences to buy into an entirely new fictional universe that could launch a potential franchise? Despite being pushed almost a year from it’s original summer 2014 release, the studio is likely hoping this will be their GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY rather than a bomb the size of JOHN CARTER.

We have had two trailers released so far but neither has delved into the machinations behind how the characters end up where they are. This new French trailer is mostly footage we have already seen, but there is a section that explains how Mila Kunis‘ character, Jupiter, is some sort of galactic royalty.

If I am understanding correctly, Jupiter is the reincarnation of a powerful queen and the universe has been waiting until all of the specific DNA alignment that makes her who she is comes back into a particular order. This upsets others in the galaxy, namely Eddie Redmayne‘s scowling villain, and chaos ensues. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that is not how DNA works, but I will let it go since the trailer is so pretty.

Sean Bean looks like he may actually survive this movie, unless all of his scenes are front-loaded and then peppered through the trailer, but this looks like it could be a fun bit of escapist entertainment with very high production values. I am not sold on Channing Tatum as some sort of Mog (he’s his own best friend) or the alien flying lizard guy, but I am a fan of all of the Wachowskis’ films, so I will give this one a shot.

JUPITER ASCENDING opens in theaters on February 6, 2015.
