Christopher Lambert joins the growing cast of The Coens’ Hail, Caesar!

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

While filming is already underway, we still have over a year before we will get the chance to see the next film from Joel and Ethan Coen. Still, if they keep adding actors to the massive ensemble cast as they have been, it will be worth the wait. Take, for instance, the news that the Highlander himself, Christopher Lambert, has joined the film.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Lambert will join HAIL, CAESAR! as Arne Slessum, a married European filmmaker whose

scandalous affair with a young starlet (Scarlett Johansson) becomes yet another headache for the studio. Lambert will join the massive list of stars that also includes George Clooney, Ralph Fiennes, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, Channing Tatum, Clancy Brown, Alden Ehrenreich, David Krumholtz, Fisher Stevens, Josh Brolin, and Jonah Hill.

Caesar tells the comedic tale of a fixer, played by Josh Brolin, who worked for the Hollywood studios in the 1950s. The story finds him at work when a star mysteriously disappears in the middle of filming.

The Coens have been making Oscar-caliber films for decades now but have been skewing towards drama and dark comedy in recent years. HAIL, CAESAR! sounds like a screwball comedy crossed with a noir along the lines of BARTON FINK or THE BIG LEBOWSKI. The Coens have a very unique sense of humor and if this movie can balance the dark and light sides of their filmography, we are all in for a special treat.

HAIL, CAESAR hits theaters on February 5, 2016.
