Interstellar app provides details on the film’s space travel mechanics

If you're looking for a little more back story on INTERSTELLAR, then the game just released by Paramount provides some interesting content that will play a factor during the film. The game works like this: you travel through our solar system (and others), all while collecting ship upgrades, using solar power whenever possible to conserve fuel, and slingshotting around orbits (a la STAR TREK: THE VOYAGE HOME) to reach your next destination. There's also a mode where you can create and share your own solar systems with friends.

The rather interesting aspect of this is that the game and film both follow theoretical physics laid down by Kip Thorne, who is most known for gravitational physics and astrophysics. The game isn't easy, but apparently it does follow Thorne's calculations in a realistic manner (i.e. be prepared to crash into many planets). The game is available on your browser if you head over to this link, but you can also download it from the Google Play store as well.  I must admit that it was an interesting taste on maneuvers we can probably expect to see in the movie, and I'm itching to see how Christopher Nolan will implement them to tell his story.

INTERSTELLAR will hit theaters on November 7, 2014.
