Marvel to release one sequel and one new franchise each year

Last week Marvel announced release dates for five untitled films, and now Kevin Feige has revealed the studio's plans for their upcoming movies. In an interview with IGN, Feige says the studio might release one sequel and one new franchise each year, and that starts with next month's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.

[Guardians of the Galaxy] fulfilled our desire to do something different. To start producing, each year, a film that was the sequel to a pre-existing, successful franchise and do something new. We're doing that next year with Age of Ultron, with Ant-Man, and hope to maybe continue that model in the coming years.

It's already been announced CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 will be released on May 6, 2016, and an untitled movie is set to open on July 8, 2016 as well. Based on Kevin Feige's comments, the July 2016 film will more than likely be Scott Derrickson's DOCTOR STRANGE. As for the other films? Your guess is as good as mine, but I wouldn't be surprised if one of the planned movies is a sequel to GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, and we know Marvel is at least a little interested in doing a solo Hulk movie.

With SDCC starting this week, and there's a very good chance we'll be learning more about a few of these untitled Marvel films. Of course JoBlo.com will be covering the event, so be on the look out for more details on Marvel's upcoming films.

Marvel's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY will be in theaters on August 1, 2014.
