Matthew Vaughn says The Fantastic Four will be dark and not a comedy

Now that the cast has been revealed, we need some details about the movie. I would expect that whatever happens, THE FANTASTIC FOUR is going to be tonally the opposite of the two Tim Story films.

Producer Matthew Vaughn was recently asked about the Josh Trank film by Empire and shared some scant details about what we can expect from the reboot, both regarding the tone of the film.

“It’s a total reboot, that’s for sure. It’s got nothing to do with the other bloody ones.”

“It’s not stretchy guy and a guy running around in rock that looks like it’s made polystyrene. And its not a comedy.”

I don’t think that there was any doubt that THE FANTASTIC FOUR would drop the campy style of the previous two movies, but I don’t think they can abandon humor entirely. THE FANTASTIC FOUR is shaping up to be a lot like Marc Webb‘s THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN in relation to Sam Raimi‘s trilogy. In that comparison, it did take an entire film before the movie loosened up a bit as the upcoming THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 looks a lot funnier and not quite as stark as the first movie.

THE FANTASTIC FOUR starring Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell is set for release on June 19, 2015.
