Guillermo Del Toro is still progressing on his “JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK” film for DC/Warner Bros. even though it’s sister film, the regular ol’ JUSTICE LEAGUE is in turnaround.  Speaking to Total Film, the PACIFIC RIM helmer gave a brief update on his pursuit of the project and what his intentions are.  Read on.

“I am going to be presenting my storyline to DC and Warners of where I want to take this universe. We do have a writer, but until that is firmed up, I have to keep it a secret. I hope it happens.”

Del Toro, ever the fanboy, seems deeply invested in the characters, saying:

“It’s going really really well. It’s like meeting old friends. I grew up with Demon Etrigan, with Swamp Thing, with Deadman, so these are characters that are near and dear to my heart.”

In terms of how he’ll be approaching the individual players on the team, Del Toro is focused on being faithful to the rightful origins of all involved, saying:

“I’d love to use the origins that are proper to each character. I love the idea of Jason Blood as a paladin and a knight…. I love the entire Constantine mythology, the Dead Man mythology, the Alex Holland Swamp Thing mythology. These are really rich things to well, and to dig.”

Sounds pretty good, no?  Really, though, when has Del Toro put fans off with his integrity?  The guy is a straight shooter and bonafide fan, so I wouldn’t expect anything less from the filmmaker.  He’s become someone to count on, which is why so many fans place instant faith in whatever project(s) he’s working on.  There’s no date set (or even a confirmed title) for “JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK” (aka HEAVEN SENT), but it looks like the pre-production process is at least underway.

Honestly, I don’t know why they don’t just hire Del Toro for the regular JUSTICE LEAGUE and call it a day.  What do you think?  Would you rather see Del Toro on the “Dark” film or the superhero one?
