Two posters for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire tout the winner’s Victory Tour

While the first HUNGER GAMES movie was better than I anticipated, I am holding the sequel to a much higher standard. THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE needs to be more than a decent follow up for me to fork over any sort of money to see it. While the first film was entertaining, I was glad I waited for Blu-ray as it was still BATTLE ROYALE-lite. While I know the stakes are raised in the second chapter of the trilogy, Francis Lawrence will need to truly outdo what Gary Ross did to make this movie work.

These two new posters for THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE are molded as propaganda style advertisements for the Victory Tour following the 74th Annual Hunger Games. We get a nice look at Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence as Peeta and Katniss all dolled up and ready to bask in the adulation of their fans. But, what will follow is going to be anything but peaceful.

Plot: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

From what we have seen so far, THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE looks like more of the same. I will hold out for the trailer to blow me away.

Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Donald Sutherland, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Jeffrey Wright, Jena Malone, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci, and Sam Claflin, THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE will open on November 22, 2013.
