Spoiler alert! The following story will reveal plot details from STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS. If you wish to remain spoiler free for the film and the 9 minute reveal in front of showings of THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY on December 14th, then turn back now!

Well, it looks like some fan theories may be getting closer and closer to confirmation. While the reveal yesterday that Benedict Cumberbatch was playing a character names John Harrison in STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS left many scratching their heads, it may have all been a big piece of misdirection by JJ Abrams and everyone at Paramount.

E Online has confirmed today that Alice eve is portraying a very well known character from the STAR TREK canon. She will be none other than Dr. Carol Marcus.

Carol Marcus played an integral role in STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN as both Kirk’s estranged wife, mother to his son David, and the inventor of the Genesis Device. While introducing her in STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS does not mean that Cumberbatch is in fact playing Khan, the connections are certainly growing that he is.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS opens everywhere on May 17, 2013.
