Zombieland writers sell sci-fi script Epsilon that details what happens when a robot rebellion fails

I, ROBOT still

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are on a bit of a genre roll (not the D&D kind) these days, having found great success with their first movie (ZOMBIELAND) and yet-to-be-determined-success with their second (G.I. JOE: RETALIATION).  To be fair, the latter movie’s delay wasn’t/isn’t their fault.

They’ve also got a script for DEADPOOL that is reportedly much loved (but not enough to get the movie going?), and just recently finished a draft of comic adaptation COWBOY NINJA VIKING because why not.  I hope that there’s a Deus Ex Machina in the form of an alien kitchen sink falling from space and crushing everything, because I would love the irony of that unabashedly.

But in the meantime, their new sci-fi script EPSILON has been picked up for a cool million by Sony and producer Michael DeLuca (THE SOCIAL NETWORK, DRIVE ANGRY) after just a few days of being on the market.  The original script idea is “set after an initial robot rebellion ended in failure and Earth operates on almost no electronics. The remaining robots seek refuge on a space station and begin to raise their own human lab rats, which they train to act as their agents. The main character is a man who discovers he is more human than he thought.”

Sounds decidedly different enough that Reese and Wernick can consider my interest successfully piqued, which I’m sure is something that makes all the difference to them.

More as we hear it.
