V/H/S looks to scare the crap out of you in this new featurette

I have been hearing the buzz about V/H/S for about a year now. While I love anthology horror movies, I was dubious about it being filmed as a found footage movie. But, after seeing this featurette, I think I am back on the excited side of the fence.

Directed by nine different people, V/H/S has an interesting setup: When a group of petty criminals is hired by a mysterious party to retrieve a rare piece of found footage from a rundown house in the middle of nowhere, they soon realize that the job isn’t going to be as easy as they thought. In the living room, a lifeless body holds court before a hub of old television sets, surrounded by stacks upon stacks of VHS tapes. As they search for the right one, they are treated to a seemingly endless number of horrifying videos, each stranger than the last.

I wonder how many of the people who will watch this movie even remember VHS tapes? I still have a garage full of tapes from when I worked at Blockbuster. There is something fundamentally different about watching a VHS versus a DVD. it almost feels like vinyl versus digital. Sure, the quality may not be as crystal clear, but you get a different feel. The idea of the videotape from THE RING and now V/H/S just gives me the creeps.

V/H/S is available now on iTunes and opens in theaters on October 5th.
